it has california license plate 6bwk440. the suspect is described as an hispanic female in her 30s wearing dark clothing. she seemed to have her hair up in a bun. now, there may have also been security cameras on homes nearby. that's being looked into. the robbery unit will also be taking over the investigation. it typically handles kidnapping cases. the amber alert is still in full effect. for more on those amber alert signs, we're going to toss it over to mike inouye. >> thank you. as arturo talked about, the amber alert has been activated, signs above the freeway lit up. you may find slowing where they are lit up. this impacts 101. chp has basically stopped all traffic northbound 101 from trumbull where you saw them stopped. look at this, a dozen officers walking 101 in the northbound direction searching for any bit of evidence they can find.

crashed. three suspects are now in custody. police say it is possible that driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. police are now saying the suspects may also be linked to a shooting on tennyson road on sunday. in that case someone fired shots from a car that hit a father who was inside his car with his wife and child. police do not think the father was the intended target of that shooting. the father actually drove himself to the hospital but is suspected to survive. his wife and child were not hurt. also in the east bay news this morning, a teenager fighting for his life after an overnight stabbing in richmond. this morning the suspect who slashed him is still on the loose. investigators telling us the teen was found stabbed on marina way and metro walkway just before midnight. right now he's in critical condition at a nearby hospital. police tell us it is too early to tell if this stabbing is gang related. so far investigators have not released any specific information about a possible

suspect or suspects. we're learning more today about one of the victims gunned down at the quantico marine base in virginia last week. 19-year-old was from contra costa county. live in brentwood where the victim went to high school. good morning. >> good morning to you. school is actually out for wo weeks on spring break but i caught up with the school principal. he's devastated, called the news horrible. he said the staff was in shock. he had the school flags lowered to half-staff in honor of sarks, a who volunteered in 1997 and volunteered with special needs kids while here. she graduated with honors and enlisted in the marine after. the gunman, lopez was from pacifica, a highly decorated marine who served in iraq and afghanistan. this morning a youtube video up

reporting live. an east bay soldier died from wounds he received in afghanistan. 31-year-old sergeant first class james gris om died thursday in germany from wounds he suffered in afghanistan. grisom was part of special forces based in washington. he was on his fifth deployment overseas. he graduated from mount eaton in hayward in 19 99 in the art institute in san francisco. >> hundreds gathered to remember a teenager boy hit and killed in an accident at a racetrack last weekend. his mother spoke about her sports loving 14-year-old son and how she wished all the attention this past week could have been for something different. >> it was so surreal. we couldn't help but marcus would have thought of all this, especially being on

sportscenter. i know he would have much rather been on sportscenter for a fadeaway game winning buzzer than all of this. >> marcus was hit by his cousin who spun out of control in a race car during a warm-up lap. a 68-year-old man was also killed in that accident. a new tribute for the victims of the deadly pipeline explosion is now on display. the dedication took place yesterday morning at the bethany presbyterian church after palm sunday services. three of the eight people killed in that blast were members of this church's congregation. they painted the mural, a phoenix rising from the ashes, healing waters and a rainbow of hope. survivors have continued to press for pipeline safety reforms. the coast guard called officers for a missing 22-year-old man from half moon bay who vanished swimming in the office. he went to the beach yesterday afternoon to play soccer and swim with friends.

a friend says lopez went into the water and disappeared. the coast guard spent all night searching but never found him. this morning the new tunnel along highway 1 at devil's slide will open. the official ribbon cutting for the grand opening is actually taking place right about now. crews still have a little bit of work to do. once they divert traffic off the old route, the tunnel and bridge bypass will open to drivers. the new road replaces the edge of the cliff stretch of highway 1 that connects pacifica and half moon bay. it should be ready to use tonight or early tomorrow morning. if you get a chance, get out there and enjoy it today. something is coming tomorrow. >> each and every day this week we actually have a slight chance. laura and marla. good morning. thanks for joining us. it's cloudy out there. you probably already notice a change outside just from 24 hours ago we have a lot of sunshine. yesterday sunshine, not the case today. lets get to temperatures. 60 in sunnyvale.

different side of the sex abuse scandal involving former penn state football coach jerry sandusky. the "today" show spoke to an independent filmmaker who interviewed sandusky in jail. during the taped interview, sandusky commented on the testimony of mike mcqueary, one of the prosecution's star witnesses. >> i think there's a lot of things that transpired. i think these investigators, the way they went about business, his story changed a lot. >> this has been a rush to judgment from the very beginning. i know i'm going to get attacked by everybody because no one wants the truth. >> the filmmaker is trying to prove joe paterno had no part in the scandal and should not have been forced out of the school in disgrace. u.s. secretary of state john kerry is in afghanistan on an

unannounced visit to see president hamid karzai. his visit come insiincides with over of a prison. the bagram military base is the only prison in afghanistan under u.s. control. after lengthy negotiations, u.s. officials reached a deal with afghan leaders to transfer control of the prison while ensuring dangerous prisoners would not be released. as the u.s. supreme court prepares to tackle the issue of same-sex marriage, supporters will gather to rally in support. castro and market street and march to san francisco city hall for a rally. justices will consider whether states can deny same-sex couples the right to marry and whether the federal government can refuse to recognize married same-sex couples. daniel lee on capitol hill where people are already lining up for a seat in the court.

>> reporter: people camping outside the supreme court bundled up, are waking up covered in snow. they have been waiting for days for a chance to see whether justices will strike down the laws limiting the rights of same-sex marriage. >> we're not right to redefine or topple the institution, we're out to be a part of it. >> reporter: one of two couples challenging proposition 8 banning gay marriage. >> to exclude them is to restrict their liberty under the constitution. >> reporter: defenders of proposition 8 say the federal government should leave the definition of marriage up to individual states. nine states now allow same-sex marriage along with washington, d.c. 38 others ban it. >> the institution of marriage and marriage laws are designed to attach mothers and fathers to each other and the children they may create and raise in the best environment. >> reporter: the second case challenges defense of marriage act, blocks federal recognition of same-sex couples in states they are allowed to marry.

we tep to follow breaking news from the south bay this morning. this is our first look at the stolen jeep car that has been taken this morning. it's associated with an amber alert because there was an 11-month-old girl in the back of the jeep. there you see the license plate number. 6bwk440. an all-out search with chp. you can see in the back window, the sticker of two little babies kissing. a distinct mark on the car, one to look out for. they are looking for a hispanic female who possibly could have taken this 2006 jeep liberty. keep an eye out for it.

in other news now the golden gate bridge is set to go cashless in just two days. the new all electronic tolling system will go in effect on wednesday. bridgeworkers are making some last minute changes to make sure drivers are as prepared as possible. later today crews -- this is what they did actually this morning. they hoisted a 27 foot sign, do not stop automatic toll lanes to prepare for the switch. during the first few days bridge district employees will stand near toll booths to waive them threw. >> it will look a little different, the glass planned for the exterior will cost an strat $7.5 million to meet safety deadlines. so project officials are proposing perforated metal they say will look and act similar to the panels.
